Access AAA parameters are managed with Radius. We found an issue with current FreeBSD PPP implementation on Radius accounting : Attributes Acct-{Input,Output}-Octets and Acct-{Input,Output}-Packets are only based on accounting informations from IPCP. Since our solution only use IPV6CP, we have to modify the code in PPP to send IPV6CP accounting information in these Radius attributes. The basic solution may be just to add IPCP and IPV6CP values and to transmit these sums as value for these attributes. Another solution may also to have separate accounting attributes for IPv4 and IPv6. We think this may be only relevant for packets (as it is done in system MIBs for instance). Our proposal is to have two more attributes for Radius accounting : Acct-IPv6-Input-Packets and Acct-IPv6-Output-Packets. The rational of this proposal is to give operators who deploy dual stack access solution some accounting information about IPv6/IPv4 usage ratio. We ask the Radext WG to take position on this proposal. Some inputs may also come from the Softwires WG. Philosophical: - it might be useful to describe (e.g., in an appendix) the most important design choices you made; e.g., why L2TP? would some other mechanism have been acceptable as well, or did you require some specific L2TP features? => there were two main reasons to use L2TP: the first one was we already had experiences with L2TP over GSM/GPRS environments, the second was L2TP was heavily used here by ADSL ISPs so it should be easily accepted. - while the approach could be workable, I'm having difficulty seeing practical deployment. I doubt many users want to add (yet another) box to their network for the sole purpose of IPv6. Many users would probably be happy by having a host act as a v6 router. That wouldn't require getting and installing a new box that's going to be retired (hopefully) as soon as possible in any case, while the prefix could still be stable. => in the softwire problem statement, hubs & spokes section, you can see three cases. The point6box is usually the third case but can be the first when you can replace the HGW. The associated PE6 supports the case 2 too. So even if I agree a native and integrated IPv6 is the best solution your comment is more about the whole softwire hubs & spokes solution than the point6box one... 4) Security considerations section is inadequate. You should analyze how/whether the manner in which you use the existing protocols exposes you to security issues (for example, you don't seem to have any server authentication, I guess someone on the wire could steal the user credentials?) => you can do server authentication with CHAP. The idea is the existing protocols already provide all the security tools you can need so the point6box document is neutral. Of course you can misuse the security features but unfortunately this can't be fixed by an IETF document... [ID.delegated] "RADIUS Delegated-IPv6-Prefix Attribute". => oops, I believed this one was fixed. [RFC4057] Bound, J., "IPv6 Enterprise Network Scenarios", RFC 4057, June 2005. ==> not referred to in the draft, can be removed? (are there others like this?) => it is the only one reported by xml2rfc. o deploy the IPv6 in a private network. A company specialized in digital signages has to install display devices in hotels, shops and supermarkets. ==>"signages" ? => try google on it (:-)! There has been made a room blocking there which a special price of 650HK$ (half of the regular price), but this is only valid if you register until 10th February. Unfortunately the message with the attachment of the form that you need to fill and send by fax or email to the hotel for your reservation seems that has not reached the list. So I've posted this document at: http://www.ipv6tf.org/royalpark.pdf It will be only available there until end of this week, as a temporary placeholder. I've reserved myself just filling the 3rd page and sending it scanned to Jacqueline Chan at the email indicated in the document, and in a few hours got my confirmation back. Here is a direct pointer: http://bgp.nu/~dward/softwires/InterimMeetingFeb23-241006HongKong.htm Please review the agenda, logistics information and Criteria for Solution Set selection. The last item is a draft following discussions that Alain, Mark and myself have had over the last weeks. It is an effort to guide presenters on what we expect to see/hear and a way for the WG to select candidate solutions. What you will find is a separation of technical and non-technical items that should be addressed. The technical items are derived from the MUST requirements from the problem statement and the non-technical items are rather generic questions that fall into the categories of concern that we have discussed as a WG. We look forward to working w/ the all participants in Hong Kong. For all those that cannot make the meeting, we will post notes to the list and review in Dallas. Many thanks to folks at CUHK and CERNET for all their help in hosting the meeting and providing the logistical legwork!!! -Dward and Alain _______________________________________________ Softwires mailing list Softwires@ietf.org https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/softwires From softwires-bounces@ietf.org Thu Feb 09 11:08:30 2006 Received: from localhost.cnri.reston.va.us ([127.0.0.1] helo=megatron.ietf.org) by megatron.ietf.org with esmtp (Exim 4.32) id 1F7ELO-00031y-MQ; Thu, 09 Feb 2006 11:08:30 -0500 Received: from odin.ietf.org ([132.151.1.176] helo=ietf.org) by megatron.ietf.org with esmtp (Exim 4.32) id 1F7ELM-0002z7-58 for softwires@megatron.ietf.org; Thu, 09 Feb 2006 11:08:28 -0500 Received: from ietf-mx.ietf.org (ietf-mx [132.151.6.1]) by ietf.org (8.9.1a/8.9.1a) with ESMTP id LAA04889 for ; Thu, 9 Feb 2006 11:06:32 -0500 (EST) Received: from ex.hexago.com ([209.71.226.4]) by ietf-mx.ietf.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1F7EXx-0005Nl-K5 for softwires@ietf.org; Thu, 09 Feb 2006 11:21:31 -0500 Received: from localhost (retro.hexago.com [209.71.226.5]) by ex.hexago.com ( hexago/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k19G4pPn035354 for ; Thu, 9 Feb 2006 11:04:51 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from jean-francois.tremblay@hexago.com) Date: Thu, 09 Feb 2006 11:07:56 -0500 From: JF Tremblay To: softwires@ietf.org Subject: Re: [Softwires] Logistics and Agenda for Softwires Interim Meeting Feb 23-24, 2006 Hong Kong Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: X-Mailer: Mulberry/4.0.4 (Win32) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) X-Scan-Signature: 0bc60ec82efc80c84b8d02f4b0e4de22 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-BeenThere: softwires@ietf.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: softwires wg discussion list List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: softwires-bounces@ietf.org Errors-To: softwires-bounces@ietf.org --On Wednesday, February 08, 2006 10:49 PM -0600 David Ward wrote: > Please review the agenda, logistics information and Criteria for > Solution Set selection. Thanks David. A few questions/comments on the criteria page, hub&spokes section: a) What is 4-c, PDU? Does this refer to section 4.6 on the IPsec profile? b) In the introduction of the draft, time-to-market is mentioned as a significant criteria for the chosen protocol. Shouldn't this be discussed, maybe as a non-tech criteria? c) Item 7), L2/L3 connectivity. What does this refer to in the draft? To my understanding, L2 encapsulation was a nice-to-have (draft section 4.8). /JFT _______________________________________________ Softwires mailing list Softwires@ietf.org https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/softwires From softwires-bounces@ietf.org Mon Feb 13 13:40:47 2006 Received: from localhost.cnri.reston.va.us ([127.0.0.1] helo=megatron.ietf.org) by megatron.ietf.org with esmtp (Exim 4.32) id 1F8icx-0005gt-0b; Mon, 13 Feb 2006 13:40:47 -0500 Received: from odin.ietf.org ([132.151.1.176] helo=ietf.org) by megatron.ietf.org with esmtp (Exim 4.32) id 1F8icv-0005gl-LJ for softwires@megatron.ietf.org; Mon, 13 Feb 2006 13:40:45 -0500 Received: from ietf-mx.ietf.org (ietf-mx [132.151.6.1]) by ietf.org (8.9.1a/8.9.1a) with ESMTP id NAA13978 for ; Mon, 13 Feb 2006 13:38:59 -0500 (EST) Received: from paoakoavas09.cable.comcast.com ([208.17.35.58] helo=cable.comcast.com) by ietf-mx.ietf.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1F8iqZ-0001lG-W2 for softwires@ietf.org; Mon, 13 Feb 2006 13:54:53 -0500 Received: from ([10.20.9.174]) by paoakoavas09.cable.comcast.com with ESMTP id KP-TDCH7.17018826; Mon, 13 Feb 2006 13:40:20 -0500 Received: from PACDCEXCMB01.cable.comcast.com ([10.20.10.113]) by PACDCEXCSMTP02.cable.comcast.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.1830); Mon, 13 Feb 2006 13:40:19 -0500 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.5.7226.0 Content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Date: Mon, 13 Feb 2006 13:40:19 -0500 Message-ID: <6EEEACD9D7F52940BEE26F5467C02C730458E088@PACDCEXCMB01.cable.comcast.com> Thread-Topic: Interim presentation slides Thread-Index: AcYwzPBPt32Y6/BsSVa4JjC7NEnHMA== From: "Durand, Alain" To: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 13 Feb 2006 18:40:19.0978 (UTC) FILETIME=[F0E726A0:01C630CC] X-Spam-Score: 0.1 (/) X-Scan-Signature: 538aad3a3c4f01d8b6a6477ca4248793 Cc: Subject: [Softwires] Interim presentation slides X-BeenThere: softwires@ietf.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: softwires wg discussion list List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="===============2022356257==" Sender: softwires-bounces@ietf.org Errors-To: softwires-bounces@ietf.org This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --===============2022356257== Content-class: urn:content-classes:message Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----_=_NextPart_001_01C630CC.F0840BBD" This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------_=_NextPart_001_01C630CC.F0840BBD Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Folks, =20 We would like to request presenters at the Interim meeting to sent in their slides by Friday, 2/17, 5pm EST. =20 Please send them to David & me directly, not to the list. =20 - David & Alain, wg chairs. =20 ------_=_NextPart_001_01C630CC.F0840BBD Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
