Hi = Ron,

I have a few questions about the = MFP Alerts draft.

1. If there are no groups for = scanDeviceCover or scanDeviceInput, why is there a group for = scanDeviceMediaPath?

2. If, for example, the scanner = document feeder cover was open, then the prtAlertTable entry would include = prtAlertGroup =3D 6 (Cover), but then the prtAlertGroupIndex should point to a cover = in the prtCover table. So now I have scan device covers implemented in the printer MIB, = but other scan device subunits in the MFP MIB?

3. In the examples in section = 10.1.3 for the scanDeviceScanner group there is Lamp Missing, subunitMissing(9) / subunitRemoved(26). What if I have multiple subunits that could be = missing? There is no way to tell without using prtAlertGroupIndex to point to a table = entry in the MFP MIB?

Thanks,

Hi,

My=20 mistake about (3) below - of course prtAlertDescription can=20 only
discriminate between multiple subunits for _humans_.  A = proper=20 MIB
is=20 required (which is by the way named "Imaging System MIB",=20 not
"MFP=20 MIB") - the term "MFP" is used in WIMS/1.0 and the=20 SM/2.0
update=20 work only informatively - the authoritative term is = "Imaging
System" (containing Agent, Manager, Services, Subunits,=20 etc).

Cheers,
-=20 Ira

Hi=20 Ron,

Will you = send your=20 response to the PMP list, so others may see your=20 answers?

I am = thinking it is=20 really weird to have the scanner covers, input, and media path = defined in the=20 print mib and other components defined in the MFP=20 mib...

I suppose = the=20 description field could be used as a quick and dirty alternative to=20 implementing the MFP mib. I would be interested in what Ira has to=20 say.

Thanks,

Hi=20 Stuart,

1)  I = do recall=20 discussing this in the conference, but left it out of my notes.  = Media=20 path should not be a Scan Group.  I will remove in the next = revision.

2)  = That is=20 correct.  So the covers table (or group) includes the Printer, = Sacn=20 Device, and Fax Device.  Same for the other common=20 groups.

3)  = Ira has said=20 that this would be covered by the description field in the alert = table. =20 I disagree and believe a MIB is necessary to properly define.  = Do you=20 agree?

Hope this=20 helps.

Subject: RE:=20 PMP> MFP Alerts Questions

Hi=20 Ron,

I have a = few=20 questions about the MFP Alerts draft.

1. If = there are no=20 groups for scanDeviceCover or scanDeviceInput, why is there a group = for=20 scanDeviceMediaPath?

2. If, = for example,=20 the scanner document feeder cover was open, then the prtAlertTable = entry=20 would include prtAlertGroup =3D 6 (Cover), but then the = prtAlertGroupIndex=20 should point to a cover in the prtCover table. So now I have scan = device=20 covers implemented in the printer MIB, but other scan device = subunits in the=20 MFP MIB?

3. In = the examples=20 in section 10.1.3 for the scanDeviceScanner group there is Lamp = Missing,=20 subunitMissing(9) / subunitRemoved(26). What if I have multiple = subunits=20 that could be missing? There is no way to tell without using=20 prtAlertGroupIndex to point to a table entry in the MFP=20 MIB?

Thanks,

Stuart

This activity has proceeded with the approach of first identifying and providing a DMTF change request for the Printer Class document, CIM_Printer.mof. These changes were presented to the PWG for objections in March of this year. There were no objections and the Change Request was presented to and essentially accepted by DMTF CIM Core. The PWG/CIM Realignment Project has completed the next set of change documents addressing Phase 1 level changes to additional Printer related classes. This message is to alert the PWG to these documents with a Call for Objections (as defined in the PWG Process document). The PWG CIM Printing Editorial Refresh v1.0 (18 June 2006) document at PWG CIM Printing Refresh working document (ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/wd-wimscimprint10-20060618.htm) is an explanatory text identifying the problem areas in the CIM Printer related class documents and defining appropriate changes. The following list identifies CIM classes to be changed and drafts of Change Requests (CR) to be submitted to DMTF for changes to the CIM Printer related mof’s in CIMv2.11. Note that content of the changes is completely defined in the PWG CIM Printing Refresh text; the CRs are DMTF documents to be submitted to the DMTF CIM CORE group for review and approval prior to update of the CIM_Printer.mof . -OwningPrintQueue: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/CIMCoreCR-OwningPrintQueue-060614.htm -PrintJob: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/CIMCoreCR-PrintJob-060614.htm -PrintQueue: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/CIMCoreCR-PrintQueue-060616.htm -CPrintSAP: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/CIMCoreCR-PrintSAP-060619.htm -PrintService: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/CIMCoreCR-PrintService-060619.htm -PrinterServicingJob: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/wims/wd/CIMCoreCR-CIM_PrinterServicingJob-060620.htm This Call for Objections announcement is to alert PWG members of the changes that the PWG is requesting to CIM Printer related classes, as well as to provide background for these changes, and to ensure that the PWG membership has the opportunity to voice objections to the requested changes. The Call for Objections will be open until Thursday, 13 July. Please submit any objections to the PWG mailing list (pwg@pwg.org), not to this Announce list. These documents will be discussed at the WIMS/CIM Session of the June 23 face-to-face. William A.
