Tamar,

which = H.248 profile do you use?

If you = use an H.248 Border Gateway profile, then it might be the “-“ = character.

See ETSI = ES 283 018.

However, = I would rather suppose an error in the descriptor (due to the media format list, = which implies a transport protocol (stack), which might be RTP profile = “AVP” here …

Hi,

The remote SDP we get in the Megaco ADD command = includes the following line:

m=3Daudio 50006 NoToken 0 8 18 = 110 111

What is the meaning of NoToken here ? I usually get = RTP/AVP here and didn't find any explanation in the SDP = standard.

Can anybody help ?

Thanks,

If the owner IP received in SDP in Modify is same as previously received owner IP, then it is Call Conference else it Call Transfer. How ever, as per RFC3525, the owner IP field is optional and hence not necessarily present in the SDP part. So what is other way (and may be more concrete approach) to distinguish between Call Transfer and Call conference at MG1 and MG3? Subject: [Megaco] Query regarding Owner IP in SDP field.

Hi All,

Referring to the call flow examples, for Call Transfer and Call Conference,
given in the following:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-megaco-callflows-04

As far as my understanding goes, the only way to differentiate between Call
Transfer and Call Conference at MG1/MG3 is to analyze the Owner IP field in
SDP part of MODIFY message (Step 37 and step 39, Sec 8.1).
If the owner IP received in SDP in Modify is same as previously received
owner IP, then it is Call Conference else it Call Transfer.

How ever, as per RFC3525, the owner IP field is optional and hence not
necessarily present in the SDP part.
So what is other way (and may be more concrete approach) to distinguish
between Call Transfer and Call conference at MG1 and MG3?

Thanks and Regards,

That is, they are the same feature, and the only way to know the state of the call is to trace from the CONF controller. From the transferor/conferor one can tell what the state is by watching the state transitions and watching the call leg setup/teardown. For the transferees/conferees, the only thing you will be able to tell is whether they are connected or not. Modifying the SDP mid-call can be any number of features, and is not necessarily indicative of CONF/XFER. Transition to fax, for instance, will involve a change in the SDP. As for the call flows document, there was never an updated version once the one you reference expired. I suggest that you acquire the correct feature requirements documents for the region you are interested in and study the feature flows. Once you understand the feature in question, it will be easier to trace through the H.248 messaging to determine what is going on. In North America, per the Telcordia specs, XFER is actually a subfeature of CONF.

How ever, as per RFC3525, the owner IP field is optional and hence not
necessarily present in the SDP part.
So what is other way (and may be more concrete approach) to distinguish
between Call Transfer and Call conference at MG1 and MG3?

Hi Bruno!

I agree that something should be added, though I haven't been attending SG16 for the last couple of years.  I am sure the exclusion of this text is merely an oversight, and is something that may be able to be added when SG16 meets in a few weeks.

Hello Troy and Kevin,

I had always assumed that you would reply back in the same descriptor order as what had been requested. I believe this is what we intended. As has been pointed out the ErrorDescriptor concept doesn't work without this assumption.

It seems this is another one of those "undocumented" working assumptions in H.248. I guess we should add something explicitely to Section 7.1 and fix the examples.

Kevin Boyle wrote:

I believe the intent is to enforce order, since that is how the sender can
align where errors occurred with the command. Christian may be able to
provide more detail on the history of how this was intended to work...

Whatever we decide, we should document the fix into the Implementors' Guides
for V1 and V2, and fix the text in V3.

Kevin

Subject: [Megaco] descriptor order and error descriptors

Hi,

I recently ran into the exchange below.
I think it points out a weakness in the protocol w.r.t. associating
descriptor level errors with the appropriate descriptor.

I could find nothing in the docs that say a response's descriptors should be
in the same order as the request's descriptors.

I could find nothing in the docs that say the AuditValue's response's
descriptors should be in the same order as the request tokens. In fact, the
V2 doc has examples of AuditValue returning descriptors in an order other
than the request tokens.

I didn't check to see if there are similar issues in the other lists that an
errorDescriptor can be used in. It seems likely though.

Forcing the order to be maintained and using that for context is ugly, IMO.
But it's probably the minimal change solution.
The real problem is lack of info in the errorDescriptor.
(Relying on the text of the error descriptor field would also be a bad idea,
IMO.)
