I've also heard people respond "what's the problem? Put an authentication proxy in the proxy path" or suggest HTTP-SASL or a number of other possible solutions to possible problems. So, we probably need first to discuss whether there is a problem, and if so, what to do about it. There's been a suggestion to hold a BOF in Vancouver (if it's not too late to plan one) to see who the interested parties are and start defining (or defining away) the problem. Another idea is to hold a workshop at some point after we've identified the interested parties. Anyway, I've started a separate discussion list for this topic-- I didn't want to spam the general HTTP list or make people who weren't interested in general HTTP issues (but only in authentication for CalDAV/WebDAV) join that list. Please join and chime in any time about what you perceive the problem or lack of problem to be or leap straight to what ought to be done. http://lists.osafoundation.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/ietf-http-auth Lisa From Yves.Lafon@sophia.inria.fr Fri Sep 30 08:21:37 2005 Received: from maggie.w3.org ([193.51.208.68]) by frink.w3.org with esmtp (Exim 4.50) id 1ELG9B-0003XK-Nx for ietf-http-wg@listhub.w3.org; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 08:21:37 +0000 Received: from sophia.inria.fr ([138.96.64.20]) by maggie.w3.org with esmtp (Exim 4.50) id 1ELG9B-00038r-1c for ietf-http-wg@w3.org; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 08:21:37 +0000 Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by sophia.inria.fr (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id j8U8LaFa018711 for ; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 10:21:36 +0200 Received: from tarantula.inria.fr (tarantula.inria.fr [138.96.10.3]) by sophia.inria.fr (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id j8U8L7eG018504 for ; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 10:21:07 +0200 Received: (from ylafon@localhost) by tarantula.inria.fr (8.12.11/8.12.5) id j8U8L7w7017069; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 10:21:07 +0200 (MEST) X-Return-Path: X-Received: from sophia.inria.fr (sophia.inria.fr [138.96.64.20]) by tux.inria.fr (8.12.11/8.12.5) with ESMTP id j8TKIo37026999 for ; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 22:18:50 +0200 X-Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by sophia.inria.fr (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id j8TKIoGP021071 for ; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 22:18:50 +0200 X-Received: from maggie.w3.org (maggie.w3.org [193.51.208.68]) by sophia.inria.fr (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id j8TKInAk021065 for ; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 22:18:49 +0200 X-Received: from frink.w3.org ([128.30.52.16]) by maggie.w3.org with esmtp (Exim 4.50) id 1EL4rg-0003nf-UV for ylafon@w3.org; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 20:18:49 +0000 X-Received: from lists by frink.w3.org with local (Exim 4.50) id 1EL4rg-0002Fl-9B for ylafon@w3.org; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 20:18:48 +0000 X-From_: hartmans@mit.edu Thu Sep 29 20:18:47 2005 X-Received: from lisa.w3.org ([128.30.52.41]) by frink.w3.org with esmtp (Exim 4.50) id 1EL4rf-0002Eu-8m; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 20:18:47 +0000 X-Received: from stratton-two-sixty-three.mit.edu ([18.187.6.8] helo=carter-zimmerman.mit.edu) by lisa.w3.org with esmtp (Exim 4.50) id 1EL4rd-0000oU-6m; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 20:18:46 +0000 X-Received: by carter-zimmerman.mit.edu (Postfix, from userid 8042) id E0ACDE004B; Thu, 29 Sep 2005 16:18:32 -0400 (EDT) To: Lisa Dusseault Cc: HTTP working group , CalDAV DevList , WebDav WG , "RL 'Bob' Morgan" , Scott Lawrence , Cyrus Daboo , "Paul B.Hill" , Mike Shaver , Alexey Melnikov References: <195278d1b8b711283f6c7fdb93107e40@osafoundation.org> From: Sam Hartman Old-Date: Thu, 29 Sep 2005 16:18:32 -0400 In-Reply-To: <195278d1b8b711283f6c7fdb93107e40@osafoundation.org> (Lisa Dusseault's message of "Thu, 29 Sep 2005 13:07:54 -0700") Message-ID: User-Agent: Gnus/5.1006 (Gnus v5.10.6) Emacs/21.3 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Received-SPF: softfail (lisa.w3.org: transitioning domain of hartmans@mit.edu does not designate 18.187.6.8 as permitted sender) X-W3C-Hub-Spam-Status: No, score=0.5 X-W3C-Scan-Sig: lisa.w3.org 1EL4rd-0000oU-6m 5652b2e00fdb26b8fbf58be44ceb1783 X-Diagnostic: Not on the accept list X-Envelope-To: ietf-http-wg Date: Thu, 29 Sep 2005 20:18:48 +0000 Received-SPF: pass (maggie.w3.org: domain of listmaster@w3.org designates 128.30.52.16 as permitted sender) X-Greylist: Sender IP whitelisted, not delayed by milter-greylist-2.0 (sophia.inria.fr [138.96.64.20]); Fri, 30 Sep 2005 10:21:09 +0200 (MEST) X-Greylist: Sender IP whitelisted, not delayed by milter-greylist-2.0 (sophia.inria.fr [138.96.64.20]); Thu, 29 Sep 2005 22:18:49 +0200 (MEST) X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new at sophia.inria.fr X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.0.4 (2005-06-05) on tux.inria.fr X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=ham version=3.0.4 X-Spam-Level: X-Bogosity: No, tests=bogofilter, spamicity=0.492624, version=0.10.3.1 ReSent-Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2005 10:21:02 +0200 (MEST) ReSent-From: Yves Lafon ReSent-To: ietf-http-wg@w3.org ReSent-Subject: [Moderator Action] Re: HTTP authentication ReSent-Message-ID: X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new at sophia.inria.fr Received-SPF: none (maggie.w3.org: domain of Yves.Lafon@sophia.inria.fr does not designate permitted sender hosts) X-Original-To: ietf-http-wg@w3.org Subject: Re: HTTP authentication X-Archived-At: http://www.w3.org/mid/tslu0g3aaqv.fsf@cz.mit.edu May I forward this to other interested parties?
