Filename : draft-ietf-decade-reqs-00.txt Pages : 21 Date : 2010-10-18 The target of DECoupled Application Data Enroute (DECADE) is to provide an open and standard in-network storage system for applications, primarily P2P applications, to store, retrieve and manage their data. This draft enumerates and explains requirements, not only for store and retrieve, but also for data management, access control and resource control, that should be considered during the design and implementation of a DECADE system. These are requirements on the entire system; some of the requirements may eventually be implemented by an existing protocol with/without some extensions (e.g., the data transport level). A user of DECADE as a complete architecture would be guaranteed complete functionality. Abstract

In-network storage systems = store redundancy to compensate for the data loss incurred by hardware = failures. To maintain the amount of redundancy, in-network storage systems should = regenerate the lost redundancy on a replacement server. This document introduces a = practical work of router-supported data regeneration in in-network storage = systems. Supporting routers in such systems can help to reduce the traffic = incurred during the regeneration and save the regeneration time. This document = presents a regeneration process that exploits the bandwidth diversity in the = network, and the corresponding protocol for storage servers and supporting = routers such that supporting routers can work transparently to support the = regeneration process.

Title: Requirements for accessing data in network storage
Creation_date: 2010-10-25
WG ID: Independent Submission
Number_of_pages: 11

Abstract:
The DECoupled Application Data Enroute (DECADE) working group is
specifying standardized interfaces for accessing in-network storage
from applications to store, retrieve and manage data. The main
objective is to provide a framework that is useful to P2P
applications, without excluding other, possibly related applications
that can benefit from accessing in-network storage. This memo
presents Internet TV as a specific application scenario where access
to in-netork storage would be required and lists a set of concrete
requirements that should be considered for the DECADE architecture
and protocol specifications.

One missing component of the draft was a diagram and description of the functional components of the architecture, and we have since added this section. In order to provide context for a more complete discussion on the mailing list and in Beijing, we plan to submit an -01 version today with this section added. Note that we have only made editorial changes to the existing content in the draft. Thank you very much, and we look forward to feedback! As we think this will also be of interest to DECADE and interest has be expressed, e.g., by Richard Yang for posting this to DECADE, I hereby = send you the link to the draft: http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-dannewitz-ppsp-secure-naming-01.txt This draft offers a secure naming scheme that can be used to securely = name complete files as well as chunks cached in DECADE, providing (among = others) self-certification to verify the file/chunk content independent of its source. If security takes place on the chunk level, e.g., an additional object representing the complete file and named via the same naming = scheme could be used to securely bind the chunks together. Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated. My coauthors (Ove Strandberg, B=F6rje Ohlman, and Teemu Rautio) are also following this = list and Ove Strandberg and B=F6rje Ohlman will attend the Beijing meeting.
