What is this? This is an SBK designed to work well for DoomI/II especially the rock oriented songs. I have changed the patches for guitars, basses, drums, and a few other things. You will need a few things: 1) Win95 (+ newest SB Beta drivers with MPU401) (You need this because true AWE native programs have the SBK patches embedded into them and unless you manipulate the program you can't change it) 2) DoomI and/or DoomII (or other games might work okay) 3) AWE FX Workshop 4) 2MB or more of RAM on the AWE/SB32 5) DX2 or better and 8MB or more is a good idea 6) Some good sound amplification is suggested too. 10W or more I will probably update this every so often when I get time. I only spent about 1 day on this first version. ------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT: in the shortcut for Doom set the idle sensitivity to low Okay, to install and use this SBK which is built for DoomI/II do the following steps. 1) Install the newest Win95 drivers for the AWE/SB32. Currently they are the Beta drivers which can be found at http://www.creaf.com and ftp.creaf.com 2) After you install these, set the equalization for the synth to 0dB for treble and bass. This is found in the new Control Panel. Also, enable the MPU401 emulation by clicking the Device button. Mine defaulted to base address 300, but you can check which address is being used by going to the Win95 Device Manager and checking the Properties of the MPU401 emulator under the Sound Devices... section. 3) Make a shortcut for DoomI/II if you don't already have one. Remember to set the Memory type to protected mode under the Properties of the shortcut. 4) Load in the SBK using the User Bank setting. This puts it in bank 0 which is the default bank. 5) Set the effects using AWE FX Workshop (or AWE Virtual Bank Manager) to Hall 2 reverb (or something else) and Distortion chorus (flange works okay too). This program can be found at ftp.inc.net as (AWEFXW10.ZIP) in the utilities section. 6) Run the Doom setup and choose General MIDI and select the correct base address. 7) Start up the game using the shortcut. 8) Turn up the sound really loud! Ok, not too loud. If you are starting Doom II do it!
